St. Mary’s

Showcasing the Nations Premier Seminary

Founded in 1791, St. Mary's Seminary & University is the first Catholic seminary established in the United States. Through its Center for Continuing Formation and Ecumenical Institute, St. Mary’s also provides for advanced theological study, the ongoing formation of those in ministry, and a center of preparation for missionary discipleship. I72 was proud to work with St. Mary’s to develop a site that showcased its distinct strengths, commitment to superior theological training and scholarship and the life and education of seminarians.

  • Service:Digital Strategy, Project Management, UX/UI Design
  • Industry:Education, Non-Profit, Religion

St. Mary’s has prepared candidates for the priesthood while serving as a thought leader for over two hundred years. I72 worked to capture its rich tradition of excellence while delivering a web experience for a multitude of audiences.

Learning + Planning

Conducting a thorough audit and review of the competitive landscape it was clear that St. Mary’s existing site did not display a modern design language and lacked mobile-friendly features. Second, organization was lacking and piecemeal, making navigation difficult.

The new site, developed with the leadership and communications teams at St. Mary’s highlights the qualities that set the university apart. Next, I72 revamped the information architecture to give current and future seminarians convenient access to essential information and in a way that makes them feel like they are part of the St. Mary’s community.

Style Exploration

Our design team worked to deliver a clean, sleek and contemporary look with a level of understatement that suggests a timelessness that doesn’t go out with the trends. The brand new design system supports a variety of content types for an institution with diverse needs while staying true to the tone and imagery that are the staple of St. Mary’s branding.

Design + Development

The development group worked alongside design to ensure proper implementation and required functionality in an easy to modify modular system for St. Mary’s in-house team. The result is an easy to manage, clear, vibrant and positive web experience for all audiences. These changes were also instrumental in making the site mobile-friendly and easily readable. Now with a new modern design identity and an overhauled website, St. Mary’s is ready for its future.
